fast service with plenty of servers on the floor. food is slightly on the salty side, and the portion is a bit small. the space is very nice and clean.

Lai Hong Lounge has that authentic Chinese dim sum feel, & it lives up to it. You walk in & the host is yelling in Chinese, it's chaotic, you somehow sit down & mark down on the menu what you want, & you eat delicious food that's not too expensive! The snowy pork bao with the cookie top was decent with a generous amount of pork filling (& not just the fatty part of the pork either, the filling was very good), but I felt that the baos were a bit doughy - I still prefer the cookie top snowy pork bao at Osmanthus. However, the bao here are only ~$7 whereas they are $10 as Osmanthus. The beef cheng-fun & shrimp cheng-fun were tasty & the sauce was just right, giving a perfect nostalgic flavor. The garlic green beans & deep fried shrimp balls were decent, nothing to note on those - tasted like regular Chinese dim sum. Service is fairly fast but can take a bit to get a table on a weekend, & parking in the area is tough! Compared to the other dim sum places I have been to in SF, Lai Hong Lounge has quality food & is definitely on the cheaper side! Most of our dishes were around $7.

I'm almost certain I have been here before, this is an older dim sum restaurant which has been in San Francisco Chinatown for a long time, The restaurant is smartly decorated quite lavishly for a dim sum house but they also do dinner menus and banquets. This dim sum restaurant doesn't use the cart system of dim sum service but more of a ordering off a dim sum menu, that way the dim sum comes out freshly steamed. There was a slight glitch, the vegetable roll wrapped in tufu skin was a little stale to me, but all in all a typical dim sum restaurant with most items you would want for dim sum. In my opinion, they make a pretty spectacular chicken feet. Definitely worth the trip but the parking situa atrocious around that area.

Pretty reasonable dim sum and given today's prices, not bad. Mostly 4 stars. Get there by 10am when if opens on weekends or come around 11:30 for the second seating. Otherwise, you'll be waiting a while.
